    Description

This piece is an exquisite art deco-style heavily silver-plated reproduction of a Greek kylix dish. It was produced by
    Gorham
for Horizon (as noted on the bottom of the piece).
The center engraved with stylized fern and acanthus leaf design. The piece measures 7 1/4 inches handle to handle and 5 1/4 incase from to rim.
The bottom of the piece is marked:
"Greek Kylix, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, CA 300 B.C., 1992 MMA".
A kylix is a cup that was used in Ancient Greece to drink wine during formal occasions and male "drinking parties." They were often decorated with scenes of a humorous, light-hearted or titillating nature that would only become visible as the beverage was consumed.
This elegant piece is decorated in good taste with a classic greek motif.
