    Description

A small document from Tishomingo, United States Southern District Indian Territory, a Certificate of Record dated December 20, 1905.  Approximately 8" x 3 1/8" in size, raised seal.  Tishomingo was the first capitol of the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma from 1856 until Oklahoma statehood in 1907.  The city was named after Tishomingo, a Native American who died of smallpox near Little Rock, Arkansas during the "Trail of Tears" removal of the Chickasaw people from their original homes near Tishomingo, Mississippi.
