Description
Impressive Old Sheffield Plate 3 piece covered entree dish with removable handle measures 13 1/2" from handle to handle, 8" deep, and stands 7" tall from the base of the foot to the tip of the finial handle. Beautifully decorated with gadroon borders, baroque feet and handles, the dish is tinned on the interior base, with the center and lid to be used as serving dishes. Hand engraved with a period script monogram on one side, and an armorial bird on the other, the dish is in good, as found estate condition, with some plate wear especially at the corners of the bottoms of some of the dishes, but no real damages or losses. Marked on the bottom with a bell symbol, used in 1828 and again in 1848 by Smith and Sissons Co. silversmiths specializing in fine old Sheffield plate in the early 19th century, the entree dish was an important participant in country house week ends, and is now a handsome and practical addition to any side board. Offered with out reserve.RETURNS ACCEPTED ONLY IN THE EVENT OF AN ERROR IN LISTING, PLEASE READ LISTINGS CAREFULLY.
