  • Condition: Flange has one shallow chip and one tiny chip near mold line. There is a shallow chip on the base and some paint from being placed on a shelf not quite dry. One flea bite on one of the ovals. Minor mold roughness at mold lines, three-part mold.

    Description

    Iowa City Glass Stork or Crane sugar bottom without lid. Circa 1880-1882.The glass is clear and any colors you see in the photographs are reflections from indoors where I photographed the piece.
    This sugar bottom has the straw marks, bubbles and waviness in the glass common to this era of glassware. On each of the three sides is a different stork or crane figure. One standing erect, one with head extended forward, the third with its head down. A floral pattern divides the panels and the border is the Oval-and-Bar motif characteristic of Iowa City Glass pieces. Flange has one shallow chip and one tiny chip near mold line. There is a shallow chip on the base and some paint from being placed on a shelf not quite dry. One flea bite on one of the ovals. Minor mold roughness at mold lines, three-part mold.
